Winter Plein Air (Forest Cabin)

Winter plein air is an extreme experience, you have two main goals - artistic and survival. Or, rather, survival and artistic. Still it gives you many advantages - you HAVE TO work quickly and you take on a whole new style due to holding your brush in mittens. And hot cocoa is a must, of course, though I've heard some artists prefer vodka.

April Plein Air

Another perfect day in the forest, some insect bites, cacao to get me warm, some curious public, one too curious dog, more cacao, traffic jam on my way home - and here is the result.

March plein air

This is my first plein air this year and it was an extremely good time spent in the forest. Wanted to capture first spring feeling in the air, and nevermind I was freezing in the end, hot cocoa in my Thermos saved my life.

Awaiting The Rain

While there is a winter at full swing outside I set on summer series and this is the third work from the set. Soft summer evening just before the rain with moisture-fed air and dense colors of green.

Forester's cabin

This is a forester's cabin at Losiny Ostrov National Park in Moscow. Photo was taken two years ago during winter ski walk, but I wanted to paint it all this time and kept photo handy :)
Finally I got my hand at oils and thought this was it, oil being a perfect media for capturing white snow on a cloudy winter day...
Hope this painting reflects the serenity and silence of this magic place.

Nuthatch in early spring
Old pastel revised - with new background and more colors. This photo was taken from my favorite book "Forest" - meaning forest in European part of our planet :)
The name of this bird in Russian is popolzen', which can be translated as "crawler", referring to its way of moving along a tree...
